Cartesius, the oldest industrial area of Utrecht is undergoing a transformation. Large-scale industry makes room for small-scale diversity. With its convenient location close to the city center of Utrecht and easy accessibility, Cartesius attracts very different audiences. It will be a prime area for different functions, including working, living, shopping and recreation.

Located three km west of the old center of Utrecht, the area lies in a triangular area between two train lines; from Utrecht to Amsterdam and from Utrecht to Rotterdam / The Hague / Leiden. Total size of the area is approximately 58 hectares.

TCN has been active as developer and investor in Cartesius since 2006. In the early years TCN developed its headquarters in one of the many characteristic buildings in the area, at Keulsekade 189. In the years that followed, TCN invested heavily in the area. Several lots were purchased, buildings redeveloped and positions sold.
Since TCN moved to their current office in the Atoomclub in Utrecht in 2010, the building is used by as their headquarters.

TCN has a clear goal with the area, i.e. transformation into a modern residential and working area while maintaining the area’s existing quality. This transformation will take place using a process we call ‘organic urbanism’. Purpose of this process is to formulate the frameworks that are necessary to achieve a broadly defined final image. Not a fixed image, but rather a plan that adapts as new circumstances demand.
