The building is used by several datacenters but also as office and storage/warehouse. Since February 2012, it also includes an Atoomclub (flexible office and meeting space for small and medium-sized companies).
The Spaanse Polder accommodates approximately 600 companies. Many offices and warehouses are located in the area, including the famous Van Nelle Factory, a national monument in 1929. The Spaanse Kubus is easily accessible, located approximately two minutes from exit ‘Spaanse Polder’ on highway A20. The building has sufficient free parking space.
History
TCN purchased the Spaanse Kubus in 2006. The building at the time was mainly used as datacenter. A datacenter is a conditioned space to store, activate and connect ICT-equipment. Key elements for a successful datacenter are reliable power, cooling, connections and space. Other functions in the building included office and storage/warehouse. TCN refurbished the building and in 2011, the building’s façade was painted and the entrance was moved and renewed. In February 2012, TCN opened Atoomclub Rotterdam on the ground floor of the building.
The Atoomclub is one of TCN’s latest concepts. It meets the growing demand for an inspiring working environment at flexible conditions. The Atoomclub is a club for small and growing companies. It’s a place where people can work in a professional environment and meet other Atoomclub members. In 2010, TCN opened its first Atoomclub in Utrecht, followed by a second location in Rotterdam in 2012.
Future
Datacenter
The need for reliable data storage continues to grow. The Spaanse Kubus, because of its location and the availability of space and energy, is a perfect location for small and medium-sized datacenter companies.
Office and storage space
The Spaanse Kubus is already used as an office by a number of companies, but more space is available. The building has a lot of room that’s available in a ‘simple space’ concept: ample floor space, basic services, flexible contracts and a lot of freedom in finishing and furnishing the space. The Spaanse Kubus offers housing from one workplace. The required surface depends on the desired destination: datacenter, flexible offices, a combination of both or other activities.
Atoomclub
The Atoomclub concept has proven to be very successful, with Atoomclub Utrecht almost fully leased only one year after opening and Atoomclub Rotterdam open since February 2012. TCN is planning to expand to other cities and regions in the near future.
Atoomclub Rotterdam started with 35 workplaces, but has the ambition to grow to 200 workplaces.
Spaanse Kubus management
TCN is responsible for the management and development of the Spaanse Kubus. The management team takes care of the maintenance of the buildings, their surroundings and shared facilities, such as meeting rooms, and security. It also takes care of new developments in the building.
